Auditions

We will soon be accepting auditions for the Fall 2026 semester! See general instructions below, and check back in the next few weeks for key dates and other details.

Auditions this semester will be open for all voice parts, including vocal percussion (VP)

To audition, you will need to record a video of yourself including the following:

  1. An introduction of yourself (first and last name, please!)
  2. A solo song (a verse and chorus of a song of your choosing Cappella)
  3. A range test (follow along with the video and instructions below)

This video will be submitted through a Google form (coming soon). Following virtual auditions, selected auditionees will be invited to an in-person callback to have an opportunity to meet and sing with current group members.

If you are a vocal percussionist, we prefer that you complete the whole audition and use the solo song portion to showcase some of your skills (if you sing AND do VP, you can do both a singing and VP solo). If you really don’t like to sing and are only interested in VP, you can skip the range test and just submit a VP solo.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at gradtones@gmail.com. Thanks so much for your interest in our group!

Range Test Instructions

For the range test component of auditions, please select the video below that corresponds to your voice part (basses/tenors use the low voices video; sopranos/altos use the high voices video). The video tutorial by our former Music Director, Colin, will have you complete two exercises, one going up and one going down the scale. Use his example to learn the exercise, then pause the video and continue repeating the exercise on your own in ascending/descending keys until you have reached your highest/lowest comfortably sung notes.
