It’s the most wonderful time of the year! GradTONES Winter 2023 are here. Tell your friends and family we are looking for all voice parts and vocal percussion. The deadline for your audition tapes is January 9th, 5 pm.

This semester, we are accepting auditions for all voice parts as well as vocal percussion! 

Our first round of auditions are online and asynchronous. That means that we will have you upload videos of yourselves singing during a set window of time. No appointments necessary–you can audition from your couch at 2am if you’d like!

Auditions are live from August 22nd until September 7th, 2022. You can upload your video at any time during that window, with the deadline being 5:00pm ET on 9/7/22.

We will select a few people to come to our in-person call-backs, which will be held on Monday, September 12th from 7-9pm. It is important that those who are interested in joining the group can make the call-backs if they are selected to attend, so please make every effort to block off that time!

Here’s what your video should include:

1. An introduction of yourself (tell us your first and last name, and title the video with your name as well, so that we can be sure we know who we are listening to)
2. A solo song (sing a verse and chorus of a song of your choosing. It can be any song you’d like–just try to pick something that shows off your voice well!)
3. A range test (see the video tutorials on our Auditions page!)

You should fill out this Google form with info about yourself, and upload your audition video at the end of the form (form is now live).

And that’s it! If you are selected for a call-back, these will be in-person and take place the week of September 6.

It’s that time again! GradTONES are  launching our Winter 2022 Auditions. This semester, auditions will be online and asynchronous as they were last semester, to mitigate lingering risks of COVID-19. That means that you will record a video of yourself (instructions below) and upload to our handy little Google form, at any time during our audition window. You can re-record as many times as you’d like and audition from the comfort of your own home (or closet)!

This semester, we are restricting our auditions to folks who sing bass/baritone/tenor as our other positions are currently full. If you have a lower voice and are unsure what part you are, you can go ahead and audition and we can use your range test to determine your part. If you have a higher voice (alto/mezzo/soprano), hold tight–we will have more spots open next semester (Fall 2022), and would love to have you audition at that time!

Auditions are now live and will remain open until January 13th, 2022 at 5:00pm. Please make sure to get your audition in before that time as we will begin deliberations right away!

Come one, come all! The GradTONES, UM’s premiere graduate a cappella group, is hosting our semiannual concert! Whatever your outlook on love, GradTONES will be certain to get you in your feelings with our love-filled set. Come hear grads from all over campus sing your favorite love songs by Zedd, Bastille, Shawn Mendes, and more!

The concert is in Angell Hall, Auditorium C at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 19th. Admission is FREE and doors open 30 minutes beforehand. Can’t wait to see you there!

Mass Meeting 
Join us for a mass meeting on Monday, Sept. 11th to meet the group and learn more about the audition process. We’ll get started at 5:30 PM in the Michigan Union (Pond Room).
